שַׁחְוַורm. (interch. with שַׁחְוָן) town-captain. B. Bath47a אי לאו דאודי … לש׳ (Ar. ed. Koh. לשחרן, read: לשחון; Alf. ed. Const. לשַׁהֲוָאן) if he had not confessed to him (that he had given him the ass as a present), he would have surrendered him and his ass to the captain (for confiscation). Sifré Deut. 6 (prov.) עבד … הדבק לש׳ וישתחוו לך a kings servant is a king, attach thyself to the captain, and they will bow down before thee; Yalk. ib. 801 הדבק לש׳ וישחון לך; Gen. R. s. 16 הרבק לש׳ ‘Rashi (ed. לשיחין, לשיחן, לשיחין; Ar. דבוק לשחון).
